Avionics Test Engineer (All Levels)

Location: Hybrid role in Hawthorne, California, United States

Salary: $140,000–$230,000 per year

What you will do

• Own the full lifecycle of avionics unit test systems, including architecture, rack design reviews, implementation, validation, and production sustainment.
• Design automated test systems with commercial equipment, custom PCBAs, harnesses, signal conditioning, instrumentation, and fixtures.
• Develop test automation software in Python, C/C++, or similar languages to interface with units under test, test equipment, MES, and test data archives.
• Execute acceptance, qualification, environmental screening, thermal, vibration, TVAC, EMI/EMC, and burn-in test campaigns.
• Collaborate with Responsible Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers on Design for Test, test coverage, product reliability, and production yield.
• Investigate test anomalies and production failures, drive corrective actions, and support vehicle-level failure investigations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or related field.
• At least 1 year of experience with avionics development, hardware testing, manufacturing, or test automation involving both hardware and software.
• Experience using oscilloscopes, DMMs, DAQs, electronic loads, and other measurement equipment to verify electronic hardware requirements.
• Experience with avionics hardware, embedded software, firmware integration, electrical schematics, or electronics manufacturing processes.
• Experience with automated test racks, PCBAs, signal conditioning, instrumentation, wire harnesses, or schematic and PCB design tools such as Altium Designer.
• Senior and staff-level candidates should have experience leading test campaigns, mentoring engineers, and establishing test-system development and validation standards.

Nice to have

• Experience with SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-810, or other environmental testing standards.
• Experience with power electronics, motor controllers, GNC sensors, optics, RF devices, Ethernet, RS-422, RS-485, or CAN.
• Experience with nonconformance, MRB, or corrective-action processes in a flight-hardware production environment.
