Land Survey Assistant

Location: Tucson, Arizona, United States; primarily onsite outdoor field work

Salary: $21.00–$30.00 per hour

What you will do

• Assist the Crew Chief with boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, right-of-way, utility, as-built, and construction-staking surveys.
• Set up, operate, maintain, and store robotic total stations, GNSS/GPS receivers, levels, data collectors, tablets, rods, and prisms.
• Support construction staking for buildings, roads, grading, utilities, drainage, curbs, sidewalks, and other civil improvements.
• Set and mark stakes, hubs, control points, monuments, elevations, offsets, stationing, and cut-and-fill information.
• Collect field measurements, codes, photographs, sketches, notes, and documentation of existing site conditions.
• Coordinate with survey crews, contractors, equipment operators, engineers, inspectors, and property owners while following safety procedures.

Requirements

• Entry-level candidates are welcome; prior surveying experience is not required.
• High school diploma or equivalent; preferred background includes one year of technical survey training plus one year of experience, or two years of equivalent work experience.
• Ability to understand measurements, read a tape measure, and perform basic arithmetic involving feet, fractions, slopes, elevations, and grades.
• Basic computer, tablet, or mobile-device skills and the ability to follow instructions and work in a two- or three-person field crew.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand for 8–10 hours, walk on uneven or steep terrain, carry equipment, and work outdoors in changing weather and rugged locations.

Nice to have

• Experience in land surveying, construction staking, civil construction, site development, or another construction trade.
• Mechanical aptitude, reliability, attention to detail, strong attendance, punctuality, and willingness to learn.
