Legal AI Engineer

Location: New York, United States; onsite role

Salary: $215,000–$245,000 USD annually, with potential eligibility for an annual bonus

What you will do

• Design and synthesize legal datasets covering litigation, investigations, compliance, e-discovery, privilege review, and corporate workflows.
• Generate and annotate training and benchmarking data, and collaborate with machine learning teams on task specifications, evaluation metrics, and model requirements.
• Define and validate product capabilities by translating attorney workflows into structured workflows, runbooks, and agentic patterns.
• Participate in client conversations, product demos, sales meetings, and marketing content for legal audiences.
• Use AI tools, scripting, and light coding to prototype workflows, simulate datasets, test product ideas, and create internal tools.
• Deliver reliable, high-quality work through rapid iteration with engineering, research, and product teams.

Requirements

• JD degree and active or prior bar membership.
• 2–8+ years of legal practice, preferably in litigation, investigations, e-discovery, compliance, regulatory, white-collar, or ECA work.
• Deep familiarity with legal workflows such as privilege review, deposition preparation, custodian interviews, factual development, and matter management.
• Comfort working with engineers and product teams, writing simple scripts, prompting LLMs, analyzing outputs, and using AI tools creatively.
• Strong understanding of how legal reasoning maps to data, rules, workflows, and model behavior.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

Nice to have

• Experience with e-discovery platforms, investigative workflows, or document review management.
• Exposure to machine learning, synthetic data generation, or structured knowledge representation.
• Experience in legal technology, product design, research, or innovation-focused roles.
