Lead Statistical Geneticist (AI/ML)

Location: Remote-eligible within the US or based in South San Francisco with an in-person hybrid schedule of three days per week.

Salary: $224,000 - $273,000 per year.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of four statistical geneticists.
• Define the roadmap and technical direction for statistical genetics at the company.
• Develop novel ML methodology to extract insights from human genetics and integrate diverse data modalities.
• Partner with software engineering to build reusable, well-tested analytical workflows.
• Own GWAS, rare variant, and post-GWAS analyses to identify and prioritize novel targets.
• Collaborate with therapeutic area scientists to convert genetic findings into validated drug discovery programs.

Requirements

• PhD in statistical genetics, human genetics, computational biology, biostatistics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of industry experience.
• Direct people management experience with a track record of mentoring technical talent.
• Deep knowledge of statistical genetics applied to target discovery.
• Demonstrated experience applying machine learning to genetic, imaging, or clinical data.
• History of publication and methodological innovation.

Nice to have

• Strong Python or R proficiency in a cloud environment.
• Understanding of disease areas such as cardiovascular, metabolic, liver, ophthalmologic, or neurological.
• Experience with high-content modalities like single-cell omics, genetic perturbation screening, or spatial proteomics.
