Senior Director of Engineering (AI Agents)

What you will do

• Own the technical architecture and roadmap for the AI agent platform, including orchestration, tool use, memory, and reasoning systems.
• Lead and grow an engineering team building and operating production agent systems at scale.
• Build evaluation infrastructure, quality metrics, feedback loops, and regression detection for non-deterministic software.
• Develop new agent capabilities and workflows, then harden them for reliability, latency, cost, and high-volume usage.
• Partner with Product, Infrastructure, Sales, Customer Success, and Support to connect technical decisions with customer and business outcomes.
• Establish practices for prompt and context engineering, testing, safety, guardrails, observability, model routing, and responsible deployment.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including significant engineering leadership experience at Director, Head of Engineering, or equivalent scope.
• Hands-on experience building and operating production LLM-powered or agentic systems serving real users at meaningful volume.
• Strong knowledge of AI architecture, orchestration frameworks, tool or function calling, RAG, context management, and latency, cost, and quality tradeoffs.
• Experience building evaluation systems for non-deterministic software and making production shipping decisions based on quality metrics.
• Experience with both zero-to-one product development and scaling production systems under real-world load.
• Hands-on fluency with modern AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar.

Nice to have

• Experience building agent systems for customer-facing, revenue-critical workflows.
• Familiarity with voice AI, conversational AI, or real-time multimodal systems.
• Experience in a high-growth SaaS or vertical software company serving SMB customers.
• A strong perspective on the development and practical applications of agentic AI.
