TL;DR
Public Benefit Specialist (Healthcare Revenue Cycle): Reviewing uninsured and under-insured patients for Medicaid and financial assistance eligibility, coordinating applications, and updating patient accounting records with an accent on healthcare financial assistance, insurance processes, and accurate revenue cycle documentation. Focus on obtaining required patient documents, following applications through determination, and coordinating with Medicaid caseworkers to ensure timely billing or adjustment processing.

Location: On-site at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, Ohio; limited to individuals who reside and are authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $18.65–$20.50 per hour, based on experience.

What you will do

  • Review uninsured and under-insured patients for Medicaid and financial assistance eligibility.
  • Initiate and coordinate applications, collect required documents, and communicate with patients throughout the process.
  • Follow applications through determination and update insurance information.
  • Document patient interactions and actions in patient accounting systems.
  • Coordinate with county, state, and federal Medicaid caseworkers and revenue cycle departments.
  • Maintain current knowledge of state and federal program requirements.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of healthcare industry experience involving patient communication about hospital financial issues.
  • High school diploma or GED; relevant post-secondary education and experience may substitute.
  • Understanding of revenue cycle processes, including admissions, billing, payments, and denials.
  • Knowledge of health insurance requirements, authorizations, benefits verification, medical terminology, or procedure codes.
  • Must reside in and be authorized to work within the United States.
  • Obtain CRCR certification within 9 months of hire.

Nice to have

  • Patient Access experience with managed care or insurance.
  • Call center experience.
  • Openness to using AI and emerging technology to improve processes and patient experiences.
