Senior High Voltage CAD Designer (AutoCAD)

Location: Flexible remote work anywhere in the US; position is associated with Louisville, Colorado. Travel and fieldwork up to 10%.

Salary: $87,000–$104,550/year, plus annual bonus.

What you will do

• Develop AutoCAD and Bluebeam substation packages for 35kV–500kV facilities, including single-line diagrams, layouts, control buildings, elevations, access plans, and design exhibits.
• Create transmission line exhibits covering structure pole designs, rights-of-way, and existing transmission line crossings.
• Support PV and BESS land development through site plans, project layouts, single-line diagrams, civil and electrical details, and early-stage design packages.
• Integrate survey data, shapefiles, site constraints, and stakeholder input into accurate HV, PV, and BESS layouts.
• Maintain CAD standards, templates, tools, blocks, symbol databases, equipment databases, and bills of materials.
• Coordinate with engineering, land, permitting, real estate, survey, construction, project management, and equipment manufacturing stakeholders; review consultant designs and maintain project documentation.

Requirements

• Associate degree, AAS degree, or equivalent experience in CAD, drafting, engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of drafting or design experience, including high-voltage substation or transmission CAD design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and related drafting tools.
• Knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems, drawings, diagrams, terminology, code considerations, and substation equipment.
• Ability to support PV and BESS site plans, layouts, single-line diagrams, and civil/electrical design coordination.
• Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, critical-thinking, and prioritization skills, plus experience maintaining CAD standardization resources.

Nice to have

• Experience with bills of materials, AutoCAD Civil 3D, PLS-CADD, shapefiles, GIS inputs, and renewable energy site development data.
• Familiarity with solar PV, BESS, civil and grading design, wetlands, floodplains, karst topography, access limitations, and other land development constraints.
• Experience coordinating with land, permitting, real estate, survey, and construction teams on renewable energy projects.
