Mission Security Engineer (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Build and sustain RMF authorization packages for a space vehicle and a classified cloud mission operations environment.
• Own authorization boundaries, control categorization and tailoring, assessment coordination, POA&M management, and continuous monitoring.
• Define type authorization and scalable conformance evidence for satellite-bus fleets, including security audit data, configuration drift, and on-orbit software updates.
• Secure operator command authority through identity, role separation, least privilege, two-person integrity, non-repudiation, and complete command auditing.
• Implement controls as code and validate cloud-provider inheritance and customer-responsible controls with live evidence.
• Design OSCAL evidence models and deterministic pipelines that generate SSP sections, assessment evidence, POA&M items, and monitoring reports.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required to access export-controlled data.
• Active Top Secret clearance with SCI access is required; SAP eligibility is strongly preferred.
• Technical tooling experience, including reading pipeline output, querying APIs, and interpreting scanner and configuration state.
• Entry-level candidates need 1–3+ years of experience and a degree or equivalent hands-on background in systems engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, aerospace, or a related field.
• Senior candidates need 5–10+ years, experience with embedded/space systems or cloud infrastructure, and multiple systems taken through authorization in national-security or DoD environments.
• Senior candidates need direct experience with an accredited cloud environment and a non-traditional system such as embedded, weapons, industrial, or space systems.

Nice to have

• OSCAL, eMASS APIs, Xacta, controls-as-code, continuous-controls monitoring, or continuous authorization experience.
• Python or Go, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and Git-based workflows.
• Mission operations, satellite command and control, telemetry processing, or multi-mission ground-segment experience.
• SPARTA, CCSDS security standards, Space Platform Overlay, CNSSI 1253, JSIG, ICD 703, or classified cloud accreditation experience.
• DoDM 8140.03 qualifications or certifications such as CISSP, CISSP-ISSEP, CISM, or SecurityX.
