Senior Mechanisms Engineer - Payloads

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. U.S. person status and authorization to work in the United States are required due to ITAR-controlled technology and E-Verify requirements.

Salary: $140,333–$179,314 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

What you will do

• Own multi-payload missions from concept through design, integration, launch, reentry, and recovery.
• Design mechanisms, structures, thermal and fluid interfaces, and electromechanical assemblies.
• Perform structural, thermal, and fluid analyses using hand calculations, Python or MATLAB models, and FEA.
• Build, instrument, integrate, and test prototypes and flight hardware.
• Coordinate avionics, software, thermal, systems, and integration inputs while defining requirements, ICDs, and verification plans.
• Lead mission operations, post-flight teardown, lessons learned, and mentorship of entry-level engineers and interns.

Requirements

• BS/BEng in Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience designing, integrating, testing, and troubleshooting electromechanical hardware.
• Strong mechanical expertise with breadth in at least one adjacent discipline, such as avionics, software, thermal, optics, or testing.
• Experience delivering hardware for rigorous environments such as aerospace, defense, medical, or automotive applications.
• Ability to define tasks independently, manage schedules, deliver integrated hardware, and communicate across disciplines.
• Must be a U.S. person authorized to work in the United States due to export-controlled technology access.

Nice to have

• Full-cycle ownership of space flight hardware.
• Experience with electromechanical actuators, sensors, thermal control hardware, or fluid control hardware.
• Experience planning and executing vibration, TVAC, or EMI/EMC testing.
• Customer-facing technical communication experience.
• Active Secret or Top Secret clearance.
