Staff Software Engineer (Java)

What you will do

• Design, implement, scale, and maintain backend systems processing large volumes of data.
• Build event-driven and API-based integrations for production systems.
• Contribute to migration toward a scalable, domain-based architecture.
• Optimize software for performance-sensitive, high-throughput, and low-latency workflows.
• Investigate complex technical problems and develop solutions with engineering and data science colleagues.
• Influence junior and mid-level engineers while working autonomously across the Outcomes, Methodology, and Recruitment teams.

Requirements

• Location: Remote, United Kingdom.
• 10+ years of backend software engineering experience with strong technical depth.
• Strong knowledge of Java, algorithms, data structures, Big O notation, and event-driven architecture.
• Experience with Python or PySpark and heavy data-processing technologies such as Spark, Apache ecosystem tools, Delta Lake, Parquet, and Kafka.
• Experience building or maintaining complex, real-time, high-volume systems with high throughput and low latency.
• Experience with Docker, SQL, NoSQL databases, REST APIs, and event-driven integrations, plus strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, GCP, or other cloud providers.
• Experience with Pandas, Spring, and microservices.
• Experience in large-scale data or analytics environments.
• Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
