Network Engineer II (Data Center)

Location: Seattle, Washington; on-site in a data center or field environment. Shift-based work may include nights, weekends, holidays, and an on-call rotation.

Salary: $108,253.00–$158,733.30 per year, depending on geographic market, skills, knowledge, and experience.

What you will do

• Install, rack, mount, cable, label, test, and remove switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, security appliances, and related network hardware.
• Install and troubleshoot copper and fiber cabling, SFP/SFP+/QSFP optics, link status, continuity, light levels, and physical-layer connectivity.
• Monitor and prioritize network-related tickets, complete customer maintenance requests, and execute documented configuration changes under senior engineer direction.
• Support outages and incident troubleshooting by dispatching to affected racks or rows for physical verification and smart-hands assistance.
• Maintain rack elevations, port maps, cable and asset inventories, ticket records, and lifecycle documentation.
• Support receiving, staging, burn-in testing, decommissioning, and disposal of network equipment while following change management, safety, and security procedures.

Requirements

• On-site data center or field work and physical readiness are required, including lifting equipment up to approximately 50 lbs, working on ladders or lifts, and standing or walking for extended periods.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience; data center, telecom, NOC, internship, military, or trade-school networking and cabling experience is considered.
• High school diploma or regional equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of Layer 1 and foundational Layer 2 networking, including Ethernet, VLANs, switch ports, and STP, plus TCP/IP, IP addressing, and subnetting fundamentals.
• Hands-on structured cabling experience with copper and single-mode or multimode fiber, including termination, EIA/TIA/BICSI testing, connector cleaning, and power-meter testing.
• Ability to read rack elevations and port maps, use ticketing systems, document accurately, communicate clearly, and escalate routing or switching issues to senior engineers.

Nice to have

• CompTIA Network+, CompTIA A+, or BICSI cabling certification.
• Experience with Cisco, Juniper, Arista, or Brocade hardware.
• Exposure to Zenoss, Syslog-based monitoring, or similar tools.
• Data center, telecom, or NOC experience; basic hand tools and PPE where required by site policy.
