Senior Hardware/FPGA Engineer - Space (FPGA)

Location: Tempe, Arizona, United States. The role is associated with specific work locations including San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area. U.S. citizenship is required for this U.S. government position.

Salary: $155,500–$246,000 annually. For specific work locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area, the range is $193,500–$290,500 annually.

What you will do

• Lead hardware, FPGA, DSP, and embedded software efforts across internal teams and external subcontractors.
• Own the technical coordination and review of subcontracted payload hardware designs, analyses, and deliverables.
• Drive digital architecture decisions, FPGA partitioning, and hardware/software interface definition.
• Coordinate development and verification strategies for programmable logic, DSP, embedded software, and integrated payload systems.
• Support proposals, technical customer engagements, design reviews, payload integration, and testing.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers across hardware and firmware disciplines.

Requirements

• Experience leading complex digital hardware designs involving FPGA and embedded systems.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams across hardware, FPGA, DSP, and software.
• Proficiency with logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and power supplies.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Ability to travel up to 10%.

Nice to have

• 15+ years of experience in digital module design, programmable logic, DSP, and embedded systems.
• Experience with space-grade or high-reliability digital hardware and payload systems.
• Hands-on experience with Xilinx and Microchip FPGA families, including RTAX, RTSX, and ProASIC.
• Experience with channelizers, digital communication payloads, FPGA simulation toolchains, and hardware/software debugging.
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and the ability to obtain an active Secret clearance or higher.
