Embedded Software Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hybrid role requiring work from the Carlsbad, California office 3 days per week; Germantown, Maryland is also listed as a work location. US Citizenship and an active United States Secret Clearance are required.

Salary: $140,500–$221,500 annually. For specific locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $174,000–$261,000 annually.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, document, troubleshoot, and maintain security-focused embedded software for satellite terminals.
• Build automated access controls and configure Linux security settings and policies.
• Integrate static and dynamic security analysis tools into CI/CD pipelines and triage scan results.
• Create tools for managing secrets, cryptographic keys, and digital certificates.
• Research, prototype, and evaluate security mechanisms, Linux controls, and compliance requirements.
• Collaborate with software, product, test, security, and automation engineers across development and production environments.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience and a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong C and C++ development and debugging skills on Linux.
• Experience with encryption, authentication software, and OpenSSL cryptographic libraries.
• Proficiency with Bash and scripting languages such as Python or Lua.
• Experience with Linux security controls and Agile, Perforce, or Git-based development environments.
• US Citizenship and an active United States Secret Clearance are required; the role requires working from the Carlsbad office 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Linux internals, device drivers, kernel cryptography, REST APIs, JSON, and embedded HTTP/HTTPS server experience.
• Experience with ARM, Power, and x86 architectures, ARM TrustZone, TPM, TLS, IPsec, and secure firmware updates.
• Experience with Docker, Podman, LXC, confidential containers, threat modeling, and structured vulnerability analysis.
• Knowledge of modern C++ standards, data structures and algorithms, and network security protocols.
