TL;DR
Optical Engineering Intern (Aerospace): Building optical test setups, running experiments, and analyzing data for space systems with an accent on optical engineering, optical sciences, and experimental development. Focus on developing optical technologies, leading applied engineering projects, and collaborating across teams to deliver results under tight deadlines.

Location: Tucson, Arizona, United States; full-time on-site for at least 12 consecutive weeks beginning May or June 2027

Salary: $25.00 USD per hour

What you will do

  • Support the Optical Team by building optical test setups, running experiments, and analyzing data.
  • Apply optical engineering and optical sciences concepts to develop systems that extend optical capabilities.
  • Work with mentors and engineering professionals to solve practical technical challenges.
  • Provide progress updates through regular one-to-one meetings with mentors and supervisors.
  • Collaborate with interns and employees through technical and professional activities.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate program in engineering, physics, or mathematics, with at least one semester remaining after the internship.
  • GPA of at least 3.0.
  • At least 3 months of applied engineering experience through an internship, laboratory work, or personal/team projects.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States under applicable ITAR requirements, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, refugee or asylum status, or the required government authorizations.
  • Must be able to work full-time on-site for at least 12 consecutive weeks beginning May or June 2027.

Nice to have

  • GPA of 3.5 or above.
  • At least 6 months of applied engineering experience.
  • Python experience.
  • Computer-aided design and manufacturing experience.
  • Familiarity with optical systems or imaging sensors.
