Engineer III or Senior Engineer (Power Systems Protection and Control)

Location: Raleigh, North Carolina, United States. Hybrid work is performed remotely and onsite after onboarding; candidates should live within a reasonable commute to the designated hirify.global facility. System travel and emergency call-out work may be required.

What you will do

• Design protection and control relaying applications for new and existing high-voltage substations.
• Develop project scopes, control enclosure layouts, elementary, schematic, and wiring drawings, construction plans, bills of material, and relay documentation.
• Calculate and analyze protective relay settings for transmission and distribution equipment.
• Manage multiple engineering projects, schedules, design releases, and field implementation support.
• Conduct engineering studies, resolve complex technical problems, and prepare calculations, reports, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with project teams and field personnel while maintaining engineering records and design quality.

Requirements

• Must be able to work lawfully in the United States without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.
• Must hold a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program; a Master's degree may be accepted in lieu of the bachelor's degree.
• Engineer III: at least 4 years of engineering experience.
• Senior Engineer: at least 6 years of engineering experience, or 5 years with Professional Engineer registration; Professional Engineer registration is required at the Senior level by Transmission.
• Knowledge of power systems, transformers, protective relaying, electrical engineering principles, and applicable IEEE, NERC, and FRCC standards.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, communicate effectively, and support system emergencies and required travel.

Nice to have

• Electrical Engineering degree and 10 or more years of engineering experience.
• Experience with electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based relays, relay logic, and protection schemes.
• Experience with Aspen One-Liner, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Inventor, or AutoCAD Electrical.
• Experience with relay coordination studies, power system modeling, construction documents, and utility protection and control standards.
