Nuclear Engineer (Nuclear Microreactors)

Location: El Segundo, California, United States; on-site

Salary: $105,000–$130,000 per year, plus equity.

hirify.global is a startup developing mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors, including the 1-megawatt Kaleidos reactor for rapid deployment to hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases.

What you will do

• Support nuclear design and analysis involving shielding, neutronics, thermal performance, and fuel studies.
• Perform coupled neutronics and thermal calculations to refine system performance models.
• Develop lower-order shielding models for rapid shielding design solutions.
• Develop and execute uncertainty propagation methodology for the Kaleidos Demonstration Unit.
• Perform criticality safety analysis for the Kaleidos reactor production plant.
• Document methods and findings, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and present a final project review to engineering and leadership.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Graduation in December 2026 or Spring 2027.
• Strong academic foundation in reactor physics, thermal-hydraulics, radiation shielding, and other nuclear engineering principles.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, C++, or C#.
• Ability to work on-site in El Segundo, California.

Nice to have

• Coursework, research, project, or laboratory experience in nuclear system design or analysis.
• Familiarity with OpenMC, Serpent, MCNP, MOOSE, BISON, RELAP, CFD, Pronghorn, or GRIFFIN.
• Software development experience or exposure to version control, testing, and technical documentation.
• Strong communication skills and collaborative working style.
