Specialist, Contract Underwriting - E&S/S (Portfolio Underwriting & Optimization)

Salary: $84,000–$156,000 annually; expected starting range: $84,000–$126,000

What you will do

• Review, accept, decline, price, and underwrite complex commercial E&S/Specialty risks, policies, renewals, and endorsements.
• Analyze exposures, claims, loss history, premium results, pricing, and portfolio trends to improve profitability and risk selection.
• Manage assigned agents, programs, territories, and segments while developing action plans for production, growth, service, and loss-ratio goals.
• Place treaty, semiautomatic, and facultative reinsurance in accordance with department guidelines.
• Collaborate with agents, program managers, product and technology partners, reinsurers, and internal underwriting teams on products, forms, systems, and business solutions.
• Support agency visits, audits, marketing initiatives, product research, technical assistance, and the training and mentoring of underwriting staff.

Requirements

• Six years of related experience or five years of underwriting experience, preferably in commercial E&S lines.
• Knowledge of commercial property and casualty underwriting, insurance law, rating plans, policy language, and underwriting operations.
• Experience analyzing data, claims, loss history, book performance, and portfolio trends.
• Knowledge of treaty and facultative reinsurance concepts and general agency distribution systems.
• Ability to make independent decisions with minimal supervision, manage ambiguity, prioritize multiple deadlines, and explain complex concepts to broad audiences.
• This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization, and hirify.global does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program.

Nice to have

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience.
• Insurance designations or coursework such as CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS, or ASLI.
