TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer I (Submarine Photonics & Imaging) (RF/electro-optical systems): Supporting submarine imaging systems for naval undersea warfare through technical data packages, testing, troubleshooting, and engineering change proposals with an accent on photonics, RF hardware, and electro-mechanical systems. Focus on integrating and testing imaging and RF equipment, performing finite element analysis, and solving system-level design and fleet-readiness challenges.

Location: Middletown, Rhode Island, United States; must be local to the work location, with occasional telework

Salary: $56,364.49–$98,006.91 projected annual compensation range

What you will do

  • Support the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Imaging In-Service Engineering Agent team and submarine imaging systems.
  • Design, review, and communicate requirements for Technical Data Packages, schematics, diagrams, and engineering documentation.
  • Develop test plans, perform test readiness evaluations, install hardware, and provide troubleshooting recommendations.
  • Integrate, test, and troubleshoot electrical, electronic, RF, electro-optical, and electro-mechanical hardware.
  • Support Engineering Change Proposals through requirements analysis, deficiency reporting, technical research, and form-fit-function replacement analysis.
  • Conduct trade studies, finite element analysis, design reviews, system engineering lifecycle analysis, and technical risk assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or applicable Navy experience; 0–2 years of experience.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory test equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, power supplies, and function generators.
  • Experience with electrical and mechanical CAD software such as Altium Designer, LTspice, OrCAD, and SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with electro-optical systems, RF systems and test equipment, and electro-mechanical control systems.
  • Technical writing, communication, organization, and system-level problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret-level security clearance with the US Government and work locally in Middletown, Rhode Island.

Nice to have

  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • PCB design, MATLAB, Linux, Visio, or PowerPoint experience.
  • One to two years of experience with optical, electrical, or electronic systems.
  • Experience with finite element analysis software such as Abaqus.
