TL;DR
Forward Deployed Engineer (AI) (LLM gateways, voice, and telecom APIs): Building and deploying customer-facing production systems across Telnyx's global network with an accent on self-hosted open-weight LLMs, LiteLLM gateways, real-time voice workloads, and Spanish- and Portuguese-language solutions. Focus on designing reliable model routing, adapting models through RAG and fine-tuning, and taking enterprise POCs through production go-live.
Location: Remote in or near São Paulo, Bogotá, or Mexico City, with authorization to work in the applicable country. Approximately 10–30% travel across Latin America is required.

What you will do
- Embed with enterprise customers to understand communications workflows, AI use cases, and integration challenges.
- Build and deploy AI voice assistants, Voice, Messaging, Fax, Wireless, and WebRTC implementations.
- Deploy and operate open-weight LLMs and LiteLLM gateways in customer-controlled cloud, on-premises, and air-gapped environments.
- Design model routing, observability, cost controls, caching, logging, guardrails, retries, fallbacks, and virtual-key management.
- Adapt models through prompt and RAG pipelines, LoRA/QLoRA fine-tuning, and multilingual evaluation harnesses.
- Lead POCs, pilots, production launches, troubleshooting, documentation, and customer handoff while collaborating with Product and Engineering.
Requirements
- CS degree or equivalent experience and 3+ years of software engineering or technical consulting experience.
- Proficiency in multiple languages such as Python, Node.js, and Go.
- Production experience with LiteLLM or a comparable LLM gateway, including routing, fallback rules, model configuration, and virtual keys.
- Experience with Kubernetes, containerized services, secrets management, configuration, observability, APIs, and event-driven systems.
- Exposure to SIP, WebRTC, VoIP, or real-time voice and messaging systems, with the ability to troubleshoot complex integrations.
- Professional fluency in Spanish or Portuguese and strong working proficiency in English are required.
Nice to have
- Professional proficiency in both Spanish and Portuguese.
- Experience with AI voice assistants, STT/TTS, LLM conversational systems, fine-tuning, distillation, or evaluation sets.
- Experience with vLLM, SGLang, TGI, Ollama, GPU sizing, SQL, ETL, Docker, Kubernetes, or CI/CD.
- Background in telecom, CPaaS, contact centers, SaaS, private-cloud, sovereign-cloud, on-premises, or data-residency-sensitive architectures.
