Head of Applied AI & Data Science (AI)

Location: Cambridge, United States

Annual base salary: $180,000–$260,000, plus eligibility for short-term incentives.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and govern the technical strategy for enterprise AI and advanced analytics.
• Lead the full lifecycle of data and AI products, from feasibility and MVP development through scaling, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Evaluate and support adoption of third-party AI solutions, considering performance, security, compliance, ethics, and strategic fit.
• Lead the Data Science & AI Center of Excellence and foster the engineering community across the organization.
• Mentor data scientists, data engineers, and AI engineers while driving adoption of new tools and technologies.
• Partner with business leaders, technical teams, legal, privacy, quality, security, and vendors to deliver compliant AI initiatives.

Requirements

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of experience in data science, AI, or related fields, including at least 5 years in leadership.
• Proven experience leading data science and AI teams, ideally in pharmaceutical or healthcare environments.
• Expertise in machine learning, deep learning, NLP, generative AI, agentic AI, and LLMs.
• Experience with Python, R, SQL, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, MLflow, Pandas, dbt, Azure, AWS, and Databricks.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, data privacy, security standards, technical architecture, solution design, and agile delivery.
