Senior Manufacturing Automation Engineer

Location: US-IA-Ankeny; onsite manufacturing role with 25% travel

Salary: $124,160–$194,000 per year, plus eligibility for bonus, stock, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead automation and digital manufacturing projects supporting production, quality, operational excellence, and process optimization.
• Serve as system architect and technical lead, integrating mechanical, electrical, controls, and software components.
• Design, assemble, test, troubleshoot, commission, and deploy industrial automation systems.
• Develop user requirements, validation plans, test protocols, deployment documentation, and technical business cases.
• Evaluate and manage external suppliers and automation partners while coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
• Train manufacturing teams on new equipment, systems, and processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
• At least 8 years of industrial engineering experience.
• Experience designing, integrating, assembling, and troubleshooting automation systems.
• Experience as a system architect, technical lead, project manager, or similar industrial project leader.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Experience with structured quality systems and technical documentation.

Nice to have

• Manufacturing environment experience and experience supporting global or multi-site operations.
• Experience developing business cases and managing external vendors.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.
• Familiarity with PLC programming, industrial control systems, SCADA platforms, and manufacturing data collection or visualization systems.
