Automation Engineer (Manufacturing)

Location: Bolingbrook, IL, US; manufacturing plant environment with occasional travel to suppliers, customer sites, or other facilities

Salary: $83,099–$96,360 per year, plus eligibility for an annual bonus

What you will do

• Design, develop, implement, and maintain automation solutions for manufacturing processes.
• Lead automation projects from concept through implementation, validation, and startup.
• Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial networks.
• Support robotics, conveyors, vision systems, sensors, and automated assembly equipment.
• Improve production efficiency, reduce downtime, enhance quality, and conduct root cause analysis.
• Document systems, support equipment upgrades and plant expansion, and train operators and maintenance personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with PLC programming using Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of HMI and SCADA systems and industrial protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC, Profinet, or DeviceNet.
• Experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and project management skills.
• Availability to support production during off-shift hours, weekends, or equipment startups when necessary.

Nice to have

• Robotics programming and integration experience.
• Knowledge of MES, ERP, manufacturing data systems, machine vision, or industrial IoT.
• Familiarity with ISO standards or other industry-specific regulatory requirements.
