Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Columbia, Maryland, United States; travel up to 10%

Salary: $135,000–$186,000 per year

What you will do

• Design and architect solutions for the Zepharis product suite and its integrations.
• Develop and maintain frontend, API, database, and deployment workflows across the live product codebase.
• Build full-stack features with Python, React, FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, and PostgreSQL.
• Architect database schema changes and plan migration workflows.
• Troubleshoot local, CI, and production issues while maintaining application reliability.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and lead code reviews and design discussions.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship required.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience and experience shipping enterprise web applications.
• Strong experience with React, Vue, TypeScript, CSS frameworks, UI component libraries, state management, and component testing.
• Expert-level Python API development with FastAPI, Pydantic, and SQLAlchemy, plus expert PostgreSQL and migration experience.
• Experience with Server-Sent Events or WebSockets, Docker or Podman, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile workflows.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience architecting RAG and LLM context engineering solutions or using LLM inference engines such as vLLM.
• Experience with AI coding assistants and AI-assisted test automation and QA workflows.
• Experience with Fedora-based Linux distributions, Ansible deployments, and cyber tooling such as Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Kibana, or Splunk.
• Experience supporting Defensive Cyber Operations for U.S. Government organizations.
