Senior Software Engineer, Operations (Java)

Location: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; hybrid work with the option to work virtually based on business needs. The role includes on-call and after-hours support on a team rotation basis. Canadian Protected-B (Reliability) clearance is required, including at least 5 consecutive years of residency in Canada.

Base pay: CAD 100,000–143,000 per year.

What you will do

• Support Java-based applications in production and test environments, including service requests, incident and problem analysis, service restoration, security vulnerability remediation, audits, and reporting.
• Design, develop, test, and debug Java services deployed in Kubernetes containers.
• Collaborate with Software Engineers, Business Systems Analysts, and other stakeholders to deliver solutions and maintain application stability.
• Perform proactive monitoring, security compliance, change management, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
• Participate in continuous improvement, system renewal, upgrades, and disaster recovery projects.

Requirements

• 10+ years of information technology experience in Java application support and development.
• 10+ years of experience with Java, JavaScript, HTML, XML, CSS, Java Enterprise Edition technologies including Servlet, JDBC, and JSP, Spring, and enterprise methodologies such as ITIL, CMMI, and SDLC.
• 4+ years of experience with ReactJS/React.js, Kubernetes, Docker, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and web security/OWASP.
• Experience with SOAP, REST APIs, Java APIs, JSON, SQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
• Experience with Jenkins, Artifactory, Bitbucket/Git, Gradle, Maven, CDD, and Ansible.
• Experience with Multi-Factor Authentication, Kafka, and light car proxy.
• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
• Strong collaboration, teamwork, analysis, debugging, problem-solving, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.

Nice to have

• Exposure to Agile frameworks such as Kanban or Scrum.
• Experience with cloud-hosted applications or servers on AWS.
• Exposure to Confluence, JIRA, or MS Teams.
• Knowledge of middleware technologies such as WebSphere or WebLogic.
