Senior Software Engineer, Tech Foundations (Zero Trust)

Location: Remote eligible within the United States, based in California, ideally San Francisco; occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required. Candidates must live where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity and may be subject to excluded states.

Salary: $196,000–$227,000 USD annual base pay; the role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

What you will do

• Build the next-generation client platform for corporate endpoints using open-source products.
• Develop and maintain the Zero Trust backend suite supporting security services, network paths, and user and device signaling.
• Build robust, scalable, and secure systems with high reliability requirements.
• Support executive staff with endpoint and identity solutions.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and security teams to optimize endpoint and identity flows and evolve critical platforms.
• Lead technical projects and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in test-driven software development.
• Extensive experience with Go, Python, or Java; Go is strongly preferred.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and infrastructure-as-code deployments.
• Experience developing and deploying services in a Kubernetes environment.
• Solid understanding of software architecture and design patterns.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
• Ability to work effectively across engineering and other functions.
• Motivation for personal growth and learning new technologies to support team needs.

Nice to have

• Experience with microservices architecture.
• Familiarity with the Apple MDM specification and its implementation in modern MDM deployments.
• Understanding of authentication and authorization principles and technologies, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID, SAML, ABAC, and related Zero Trust security protocols.
