TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer, Optomechanical Systems (Nuclear Enrichment): Designing, building, testing, and owning precision mechanical structures for optical and photonic subsystems in next-generation uranium enrichment technology with an accent on materials selection, thermal and corrosion performance, and precision alignment. Focus on developing beam delivery hardware, qualifying designs under vibration and shock, investigating test failures, and integrating hardware with multidisciplinary engineering systems.

Location: Los Angeles, CA, United States

Salary: $140,000–$220,000 annually

Company

hirify.global develops and operates uranium enrichment technology to produce affordable nuclear fuel for advanced reactors and critical industries.

What you will do

  • Develop precision mounts, alignment stages, beam delivery paths, enclosures, and other mechanical structures for optical and photonic enrichment subsystems.
  • Own hardware through requirements definition, design, development, qualification, and production release.
  • Select materials and coatings based on mechanical, thermal, optical, corrosion, and wear requirements.
  • Optimize designs for cost, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Test hardware under thermal, vibration, shock, durability, alignment, and beam-pointing conditions.
  • Perform root-cause analysis, develop mitigations, and integrate designs with electrical, optical, software, manufacturing, nuclear, and materials engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to make first-principles trade-offs with incomplete information.
  • Experience designing precision mechanical structures for optical or photonic systems, such as alignment stages, athermal mounts, beam delivery paths, or thermal management hardware.
  • Working knowledge of materials science or metallurgy, including failure analysis, material selection, or metals and alloys exposed to extreme thermal, mechanical, or corrosive conditions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly technical engineering environment and complete work under tight time or budget constraints.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends when necessary.
  • Work is based in Los Angeles, California.

Culture & Benefits

  • Mission-driven, first-principles engineering culture focused on nuclear fuel production.
  • Fast-paced, intense, Skunkworks-style projects with high ownership and accountability.
  • Full-time employees may be eligible for stock options and long-term incentives.
  • Medical, vision, and dental coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
