Principal Environmental Planner & Project Manager

Location: Hybrid or remote within California, United States; Sacramento, California is listed for the role.

Starting pay range: $165,000–$180,000. The stated full-time pay range is $130,687–$222,169.

What you will do

• Direct large, complex environmental planning, compliance, permitting, and infrastructure projects, with a focus on water and infrastructure programs.
• Serve as Program Manager, Project Director, or Senior Project Manager while managing scope, budgets, schedules, quality, and risk.
• Lead CEQA and NEPA documentation, regulatory strategy, agency consultation, mitigation planning, and environmental risk management.
• Guide multidisciplinary teams and review technical studies covering biological and cultural resources, air quality, noise, hydrology, transportation, and land use.
• Advise public agencies, infrastructure owners, developers, and engineering partners while strengthening client relationships and developing new business.
• Mentor environmental professionals, provide technical oversight, and represent hirify.global at client meetings, industry forums, and professional organizations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, environmental studies, environmental science, biology, geography, public policy, urban planning, or a related field.
• 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in environmental planning, compliance, permitting, and project delivery.
• Experience managing complex CEQA and NEPA projects and programs.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering large projects through all phases of development.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws, permitting processes, and agency coordination requirements.
• Client management, project management, and business development experience.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a related discipline.
• Experience with transportation, water resources, energy, restoration, community development, or other major infrastructure projects.
• Experience with California public works programs, water infrastructure, flood risk management, ecosystem restoration, wastewater, rail, or transportation.
• Existing relationships with California public agencies and infrastructure clients.
• Experience supervising and developing staff or serving as Program Manager or Project Director on large, multi-year programs.
