Product Design Engineering Intern

Location: Needham, Massachusetts, United States; full-time onsite, 5 days per week

Hourly salary: $27–$40 USD

What you will do

• Generate user-centered product concepts focused on ergonomics, aesthetics, and functional innovation.
• Collaborate with Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, and other cross-functional teams to define viable product solutions.
• Lead and participate in design studies addressing technical and user-experience challenges.
• Build and test quick-turnaround, low-fidelity physical prototypes.
• Use user-testing findings to refine product designs and solve everyday design challenges.

Requirements

• Current enrollment in or graduation within the past year from a related bachelor's, master's, or PhD program.
• Availability for a full-time, 40-hour-per-week schedule with 5 days onsite in Needham, Massachusetts.
• Strong experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Rhino.
• Strong experience with basic prototyping tools, 3D printing, physical materials, and machine shop equipment.
• Understanding of mechanical engineering and physics principles applied to product design, ergonomics, and human-centered engineering.
• Strong communication, analytical, creative problem-solving, organization, and project management skills.

Nice to have

• Basic understanding of electronics and components used in small appliances, including motors, sensors, and PCBAs.
• Experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or other developer kits for rapid prototyping.
