Financial Counseling Specialist (Healthcare Revenue Cycle)

Location: Petersburg, Virginia; position limited to individuals residing and authorized to work within the United States

Salary: $18.65–$19.90 per hour, based on experience.

What you will do

• Review patient insurance and financial information, estimate liabilities, and collect copayments, deductibles, coinsurance, and outstanding balances.
• Contact recently discharged and currently admitted patients regarding unpaid estimated liabilities and payment options.
• Support cashiering, cash reconciliation, deposits, flat-rate contracts, bundled services, and self-pay processes.
• Manage work queues, unbilled accounts, follow-up reports, missed-collection reports, and denial root cause analysis.
• Coordinate with Case Management and Utilization Management on regulatory forms, coverage notices, and patient financial clearance.
• Assist with Medicaid, charity processing, secondary coverage searches, coordination of benefits education, and CFO escalations.

Requirements

• Must reside in and be authorized to work within the United States.
• High school diploma or GED.
• CRCR certification required within nine months of hire; certification is company-paid.
• One to three years of customer service experience.
• Ability to understand and explain patient financial assistance, insurance benefits, EOBs, and payment obligations.
• Openness to innovation, including AI-enabled process improvements.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid, Labor and Delivery benefits, grants and research, Black Lung qualification, COBRA, healthcare sharing ministries, billing processes, and DEERS.
