Tech Lead - Code Plane (AI)

Location: Remote; hiring almost anywhere in the world, with preferred locations in Europe or EST. Working hours must overlap with CEST for at least 20 hours per week.

Salary: Starting IC5 base salary of $192,000 USD in Zone 2 or $144,000 USD in Zone 3, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Set technical and product direction for the Code Plane team and lead roadmap planning from discovery through delivery.
• Own and ship a meaningful part of Agentic Batch Changes, including orchestration of coding agents, CI feedback loops, and remediation workflows.
• Guide architecture, code quality, testing, release practices, and trade-off decisions across backend, frontend, and AI-agent systems.
• Develop products including Batch Changes, Code Monitors, Code Insights, and the src CLI for large-scale code automation.
• Partner with Product, Design, Customer Engineering, Solutions Engineering, and adjacent engineering teams to turn customer needs into shipped features.
• Mentor engineers, keep the team unblocked, participate in on-call support, and strengthen reliable engineering practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience and experience as a Team Lead or Tech Lead.
• Fluency across Go, TypeScript, SvelteKit, React, GraphQL APIs, PostgreSQL, Docker, and Kubernetes in a multi-service environment.
• Hands-on experience building systems that agents or other programs call, such as MCP servers, agent SDKs, tool surfaces, harnesses, or non-human-facing CLIs.
• Strong practical experience using and evaluating coding agents, with the ability to identify agent failures and measure improvements.
• Experience delivering end-user product features and partnering with Product and Design from idea to release.
• Async-first communication skills and experience working in a globally distributed remote team.

Nice to have

• Experience orchestrating autonomous work at scale with resumable failures, controlled costs, and deliberate blast-radius management.
• Experience owning and improving an existing customer-facing service without rewriting it.
• Experience raising engineering standards through testing, code review, or AI-assisted development practices.
• Experience making architectural decisions in ambiguous environments and defining measurements for systems without a single correct outcome.
