Staff Research Scientist, Intern - PhD Foundational AI

Location: US - Foster City, CA; at least 3 days per week in the office are required. The role requires 5–10% travel.

Salary: $66.00–$73.00 per hour for U.S. applicants.

What you will do

• Conduct generative AI and large language model research on scalable methods, model adaptation, evaluation, and applied use cases.
• Design, implement, and evaluate AI algorithms for enterprise-scale systems.
• Develop proof-of-concept prototypes that translate research into innovative products.
• Optimize model training, inference, workflows, and data pipelines.
• Prepare technical publications, reports, and intellectual property submissions.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, academic, government, and cross-functional partners.

Requirements

• Ph.D. student status with an expected graduation date of December 2027 or later.
• Research experience demonstrated through publications, patents, presentations, or technical contributions.
• Experience with generative AI, LLMs, deep learning, scalable machine learning, fine-tuning, model evaluation, or AI agents.
• Knowledge of large-scale model training, efficient inference, or distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Python, C++, Java, or similar programming languages.
• Availability to work at least 3 days per week in the Foster City office.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with big data frameworks such as Hadoop or Spark.
• Strong communication, collaboration, adaptability, and experimental problem-solving skills.
