AI/ML Intern Summer 2027 (AI)

Location: San Jose, California; in-office five days a week

What you will do

• Train and improve machine learning models across diverse datasets and tasks.
• Analyze loss curves, gradients, metrics, and experiments to diagnose model failures and improve performance.
• Work with transformer models, fine-tuning workflows, evaluation systems, and generative AI applications.
• Prototype and iterate rapidly using AI-assisted development workflows.
• Build reusable training, experimentation, and evaluation tooling for ML research.

Requirements

• Must work in the San Jose office five days per week.
• Currently pursuing a Master's degree or PhD in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics, applied mathematics, data science, electrical engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Strong knowledge of supervised and unsupervised learning, optimization, regularization, model evaluation, deep learning, probability, and statistics.
• Hands-on experience training deep learning models with PyTorch or TensorFlow, including diagnosing convergence, overfitting, gradient, data leakage, and generalization issues.
• Ability to write clean, maintainable, modular code using encapsulation, separation of concerns, and object-oriented design.
• Advanced coursework in areas such as machine learning, deep learning, linear algebra, algorithms, software engineering, NLP, computer vision, or reinforcement learning.

Nice to have

• Experience training, fine-tuning, or evaluating transformer models or LLMs.
• Familiarity with Weights & Biases, MLflow, distributed training, mixed precision, LoRA/QLoRA, or hyperparameter optimization.
• Research experience through paper reproduction, ML competitions, research projects, or advanced personal projects.
• Exposure to NLP, generative AI, multimodal, retrieval, or recommendation systems.
