Secondary Design Engineer – Protection & Control

Location: The Netherlands; open to candidates currently based in Spain. Hybrid work is possible, with occasional visits to substations, project locations, or clients.

Salary: €4,000–€5,500 gross per month, depending on knowledge and experience.

Engineering projects support the Dutch energy infrastructure through multidisciplinary substation design, modernization, construction support, testing, and commissioning.

What you will do

• Design Protection & Control systems for medium- and high-voltage substations.
• Develop secondary circuits for protection, control, measurement, signalling, and interlocking, including AC and DC auxiliary systems.
• Prepare electrical schematics, wiring and connection diagrams, cable schedules, terminal information, and technical documentation.
• Engineer protection and control panels, select electrical equipment, and develop material specifications.
• Translate customer requirements into engineering solutions and coordinate interfaces with primary, civil, BIM, and other engineering disciplines.
• Review supplier proposals and support construction, testing, and commissioning; experienced engineers may coordinate technical packages or act as Design Lead.

Requirements

• Degree or comparable qualification in Electrical, Power, Industrial Automation, or related Engineering.
• Several years of experience in electrical, power, industrial automation, or substation engineering.
• Knowledge of Protection & Control principles, secondary circuits, and medium- and/or high-voltage installations.
• Experience with electrical schematics and engineering software such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, ELCAD, or equivalent.
• Knowledge of protection relays, SCADA or RTU systems, substation automation, IEC standards, IEC 61850, and interlocking and control philosophies.
• Good working English is required; Dutch is not required at the start.
