Packaging Engineer

Location: Morton, Illinois or Clayton, Ohio; 100% onsite with no hybrid or remote option. First shift, Monday–Friday, with up to 10% domestic travel. The role does not offer relocation.

Salary: $81,370–$122,060 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement packaging solutions for aftermarket parts across storage, transportation, and distribution.
• Evaluate part characteristics, handling requirements, engineering drawings, specifications, and distribution data to select suitable packaging methods and materials.
• Collaborate with suppliers, procurement, product groups, warehouse operations, customers, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
• Conduct supplier packaging audits and communicate findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
• Investigate packaging quality issues, nonconformances, and transportation damage while driving improvements in safety, sustainability, quality, and cost.
• Create and improve packaging standards, specifications, and best practices while providing onsite and technical support.

Requirements

• Knowledge of packaging tools, approaches, and practices for safely and attractively packaging products and components.
• Strong analytical thinking, root-cause analysis, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Accuracy, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate with varied stakeholders.
• Ability to provide customer service and meet internal and external customer expectations.
• Ability to work onsite in Morton, Illinois or Clayton, Ohio on the first shift, Monday–Friday.
• Willingness to travel domestically up to 10%.

Nice to have

• Degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• Internship, co-op, project, or hands-on experience in manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, or supply chain.
• Experience working with suppliers, vendors, or cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing safety practices, technical documentation, engineering drawings, or specifications.
• Interest in aftermarket parts distribution, logistics, and supply chain operations.
