Principal Mechanisms Manufacturing Engineer

Salary: $175,000–$200,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

• Lead design-for-excellence reviews with Mechanisms Engineering, providing manufacturability, testability, and assembly guidance.
• Develop manufacturing systems, tooling, prototypes, test articles, and subassembly build flows for rotational actuators, separation mechanisms, gimbals, and reaction wheel assemblies.
• Transition mechanisms from first-article builds and development hardware to high-rate flight-hardware production.
• Set manufacturing policies, standards, and best practices while identifying and mitigating process, quality, and manufacturability risks.
• Research assembly methodologies and automation technologies, including Manufacturing Execution System software and custom manufacturing tools.
• Mentor manufacturing engineers, technicians, and design peers while leading research into novel manufacturing technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical, or another relevant engineering discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in a high-volume, rapid-production manufacturing, integration, or design engineering environment.
• Experience leading product development or process improvement initiatives and influencing cross-functional design changes.
• Strong knowledge of spacecraft mechanisms, mechanisms-specific standards, environmental qualification standards, DFX, GD&T, and mechanical assembly drawings.
• Experience establishing production floors for first-article builds and transitioning from low-rate to high-rate manufacturing.
• Must be a U.S. Person under ITAR regulations or otherwise eligible for a federally issued export-control license.

Nice to have

• Experience with precision bearings, bearing preload, mechanisms tooling, wire harness manufacturing, and aerospace manufacturing standards.
• Familiarity with NX or equivalent CAD software, Python, SQL, automation platforms, and MES systems.
• Experience developing production processes from the ground up and working closely with technicians and build tooling.
