Senior Spacecraft Thermal Engineer I (Aerospace)

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; based at hirify.global’s global headquarters

Base pay range: $115,000–$158,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Complete thermal modeling and analysis of spacecraft and other space vehicles.
• Conduct thermal design trade studies balancing performance margins, resource use, risk, cost, and schedule.
• Identify and resolve thermal design, acceptance, and performance issues in vehicle components and assemblies.
• Design and execute thermal tests and validate thermal models using test and in-flight data.
• Collaborate with program, test, design, and other engineering teams on thermal design and testing.
• Research potential vendors of thermal control materials.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, or another engineering discipline.
• At least 5 years of thermal engineering experience.
• Experience with spacecraft or satellite development programs.
• U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements.
• For U.S. office roles, employment is subject to U.S. government space technology export regulations, including ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in aerospace, mechanical, or another engineering discipline.
• Experience with heat transfer, thermal systems, passive thermal management, heat pipes, and multi-layer insulation.
• Experience with Thermal Desktop, NX Space Systems Thermal, ANSYS, SINDA, THERMICA, Siemens NX, or Teamcenter.
• Experience planning, executing, and analyzing thermal balance tests, including 0-D and 1-D thermal/fluid networks.
• Knowledge of Python or MATLAB, launch and on-orbit operations, orbital mechanics, and attitude dynamics related to thermal analysis.
