Focus on architecting PCAs, validating safety-critical subsystems, debugging prototypes, and solving complex EMC, thermal, and fault-tolerance challenges.

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States

Base pay: $125,000–$201,250 per year

Company

Johnson & Johnson MedTech develops minimally invasive medical technologies, including robotic and digital solutions designed to improve diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and patient outcomes.

What you will do

  • Own the full lifecycle development of printed circuit assemblies, from architecture and schematic design through PCB layout, prototyping, verification, documentation, reviews, and product release.
  • Develop electrical solutions for sensing, motion, optical, and thermal subsystems in collaboration with electrical, mechatronics, mechanical, controls, software, and clinical engineers.
  • Contribute to system architecture, design reviews, risk assessments, and failure mode analyses.
  • Plan and execute component- and subsystem-level verification, including fixture-based testing, EMI/ESD evaluation, thermal analysis, troubleshooting, and design validation.
  • Build prototypes, run experiments, debug hardware, and solve complex technical challenges through commercialization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 4+ years of experience, or a master’s degree with 2+ years of experience.
  • Experience designing electronic hardware with Altium Designer or similar CAD tools.
  • Knowledge of power integrity, signal integrity, EMC, and fault-tolerant design principles.
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, BLDC motor control systems, and SPI and I2C communication protocols.
  • Strong laboratory skills in PCB bring-up, rework, debugging, and using oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and current probes.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems independently and collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience with rigid and flexible PCAs, flex circuits, FFCs, clock springs, slip rings, or similar dynamic interconnects.
  • Background in complex analog and digital electronics, power electronics, and safety-critical system design.
  • Experience with electromagnetic compatibility, electromagnetic immunity, fast transient mitigation, and regulatory-driven electrical design.

Culture & Benefits

  • Collaborative, fast-paced environment involving multidisciplinary engineering and clinical teams.
  • Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, business accident, and legal insurance programs may be available.
  • Retirement pension and 401(k) savings plans may be available.
  • Annual performance bonus and eligibility for a long-term incentive program.
  • Vacation, sick time, holiday pay, and work, personal, and family time benefits.
