Staff Software Architect (AI)

Location: Hybrid role requiring two days per week in the San Francisco office every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Base pay: $150,000–$200,000 per year, excluding bonus, benefits, and perks.

What you will do

• Represent the Architecture team within assigned engineering teams and drive platform modernization according to the Target State Architecture.
• Apply AI tooling and Spec-Driven Development practices to modernize platform components.
• Pair directly with engineers and technical leaders to unblock projects and transfer architectural patterns into team practices.
• Advise on migration approaches, sequencing, risks, and TSA-aligned technical solutions.
• Write and review Technical Design Documents and RFCs, while coaching authors and building consensus in design discussions.
• Define repeatable standards for tooling, coding, AI usage, processes, and documentation across modernization efforts.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software development experience, primarily building and scaling backend systems.
• Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architecture, containerization, and containerized application deployment.
• Professional experience applying AI tooling and AI-assisted development practices.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to lead technical discussions, build consensus, and work through disagreement.
• Comfort pairing directly with engineers and technical leadership and actively participating in architecture and design meetings.
• TypeScript and Node.js experience is preferred; experience with another strongly typed language such as Java or .NET is also considered.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kubernetes, NestJS, Helm charts, ArgoCD, or Datadog.
• Experience with SpecKit, OpenSpec, Intent, Kiro, or similar Spec-Driven Development tools.
• Experience with contract-first design using OpenAPI and AsyncAPI.
