Junior Systems Engineer (Jira/Confluence/Agile/Java/JavaScript)

Location: Hybrid in Annapolis Junction, MD; U.S. citizenship and a current Top Secret/SCI U.S. Government security clearance with a favorable polygraph are required.

Annual salary: $130,000–$270,000, depending on years of experience.

What you will do

• Gather and document functional requirements from government customers and stakeholders, then decompose them into technical requirements.
• Translate requirements into Jira user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria for development teams.
• Curate and groom sprint backlogs, ensuring work is appropriately scoped and sequenced.
• Support developers during implementation by answering questions and helping remove blockers.
• Conduct initial functional testing and present completed features to government customers for feedback.
• Collaborate with UX and participate in sprint planning, demos, retrospectives, and the broader Agile lifecycle.

Requirements

• Current Top Secret/SCI U.S. Government security clearance with a favorable polygraph and U.S. citizenship.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; a master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.
• Ability to elicit, analyze, and document functional requirements with customers and stakeholders.
• Experience creating Jira user stories and epics, conducting functional or manual testing, and working with Agile methodologies and Confluence.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting technical work to non-technical stakeholders.
• Familiarity with software development concepts such as Java or JavaScript frameworks and RESTful microservices.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with cloud architecture and deployment using Amazon Web Services.
• Experience with UX or design collaboration and wireframing tools.
• Knowledge of government agency reporting and dissemination policies.
