Propulsion Dynamics Engineer (Liquid Rocket Propulsion)

What you will do

• Analyze dynamic data from engine development, qualification, and flight testing to characterize structural response, identify anomalies, and monitor hardware health.
• Develop propulsion component vibration environments from engine and flight data for structural analysis and qualification testing.
• Build and apply engine-level finite element models and forcing functions for modal, harmonic, random vibration, and transient analyses.
• Plan, direct, and analyze dynamic tests, including instrumentation planning, data reduction, and model correlation.
• Develop tools for time- and frequency-domain analysis, filtering, spectral analysis, and PSD generation.
• Support propulsion stability and POGO analysis and communicate findings to engineers and designers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
• At least 4 years of experience with structural dynamics, vibration, or dynamic testing of high-performance systems.
• Experience with an industry-standard structural FEA package such as Femap, Patran, NASTRAN, ANSYS, or Abaqus.
• Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, or similar tools, plus experience processing dynamic test data.
• Working knowledge of dynamic instrumentation, signal processing, and technical communication.
• Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain an export license under applicable U.S. ITAR and EAR regulations.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with liquid rocket engines, propulsion systems, launch vehicle development, or rotating machinery.
• Six or more years of hands-on dynamic structural testing, including random vibration, acoustics, sine vibration, shock, and modal survey.
• Experience developing and correlating system-level finite element models, vibration environments, or propulsion stability and POGO analyses.
• Previous startup or agile development experience.
