Software Engineer Intern (Drones)

Location: Red Cat Corporate, Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. Work is primarily in an office/lab environment, with occasional field testing or facility walk-throughs. ITAR/EAR-controlled work requires proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residence and no need for sponsorship for export-restricted work authorization.

What you will do

• Assist with building and testing features for an Android-based ground control application.
• Debug native C++ code, Android applications, and communication between them.
• Learn and support real-time drone-to-tablet communication using MAVLink and networking fundamentals.
• Test and validate new features, including field-testing support when available.
• Contribute to build tooling, documentation, automation, code reviews, and engineering discussions.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Coursework or personal projects involving C++.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Interest in robotics, drones, real-time systems, or embedded systems.
• Comfort working in a Linux-based development environment or willingness to learn quickly.
• Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residence for work subject to ITAR/EAR restrictions and must not require sponsorship for export-restricted work authorization.

Nice to have

• Experience with Android development or mobile application projects.
• Familiarity with Qt/QML or other user interface frameworks.
• Interest in networking, hardware interfaces, or systems programming.
• Academic or personal projects involving drones, robotics, or embedded systems.
