Staff Network Engineer (5G)

Location: Fully remote within the United States, with hybrid work available for candidates within commuting distance of offices in Salem, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, or Fremont, California. Travel required 25%–50%, primarily within the United States and Canada. Applicants must have current authorization to work in the United States.

Anticipated base salary: $181,000–$282,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Architect 5G and private LTE connectivity solutions with containerized network functions for edge deployments.
• Design scalable, secure, multi-tenant network architectures connecting distributed robot deployments to cloud infrastructure.
• Engineer high-throughput, low-latency telemetry and control traffic using kernel-level tuning and modern packet-processing frameworks.
• Define secure tunneling standards between edge devices and the cloud-native control plane.
• Improve fleet-wide network security, performance, observability, and reliability.
• Partner with cross-functional leadership to align network infrastructure with product and business goals.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in network architecture, systems engineering, or staff-level networking roles in complex distributed environments.
• Expertise in Telco/5G wireless networking, containerized network functions, and kernel-level performance optimization.
• Mastery of the Linux network stack and BGP, OSPF, and TCP/IP.
• Experience designing and implementing SDN and virtualization solutions at scale.
• Expertise in PCAP and 802.11 Wi-Fi frame analysis using Wireshark and tcpdump, including root-cause analysis of failures, roaming issues, and latency bottlenecks.
• Knowledge of IEEE 802.11 standards and channel behavior across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz frequencies.

Nice to have

• Deep proficiency with AWS networking, including VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, and IoT Core.
• Experience with Linux kernel eBPF/XDP for packet processing and observability.
• Familiarity with RF spectrum analysis tools.
