Senior Applications Engineer (Hydrogen Infrastructure)

Location: Surrey, British Columbia, Canada; regular travel to customer sites throughout North America is required.

What you will do

• Lead and support commissioning, startup, performance verification, and field service for hydrogen fueling stations and equipment.
• Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, controls, and process issues; perform diagnostics and root cause analysis.
• Act as the technical interface between customers and engineering teams, providing application-specific solutions and operational improvements.
• Configure and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, instrumentation, and hazardous-area electrical systems.
• Support factory acceptance testing, system validation, product improvements, hardware revisions, HAZOP studies, and safety reviews.
• Prepare technical documentation and train customers, technicians, electricians, and service personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
• Registration or immediate eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
• At least eight years of experience in industrial automation, commissioning, field service, applications engineering, or related engineering roles.
• Experience supporting industrial systems through installation, commissioning, and operational phases, including customer-facing technical support.
• Strong familiarity with PLC and HMI platforms, instrumentation, sensors, transmitters, control valves, electrical controls, motor control circuits, process controls, P&ID interpretation, CAD, and technical documentation.
• Ability and willingness to travel regularly to customer sites throughout North America and work independently in field environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell platforms.
• Experience with hydrogen, compressed gas, or other industrial process systems.
• Familiarity with CSA C22.1, NFPA 70, NFPA 79, and applicable IEC standards.
• Candidates with less experience may be considered at an appropriate level following evaluation.
