Senior Electrical Test Engineer (BESS)

Location: Cambridge, Canada; onsite testing in laboratory and energy storage environments. Working hours are Friday through Monday, typically 9am to 5pm EST. Occasional travel is required.

What you will do

• Coordinate test teams, schedules, test plans, test procedures, test reports, and commissioning documentation for battery and inverter systems.
• Set up and execute component, subsystem, and system-level testing for BESS, PCS, ESS, generator, battery, inverter, and BMS systems.
• Wire high-voltage and low-voltage circuits and configure batteries, power conversion equipment, load banks, and monitoring systems.
• Perform electrical, functional, performance, environmental, reliability, and abuse testing while following safety procedures and industry standards.
• Analyze test data, conduct root cause analysis, develop corrective actions, and drive resolution of technical issues.
• Collaborate with electrical, firmware, software, systems, mechanical, quality, and manufacturing teams; support product certification and compliance testing.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• Experience working with stored energy and high levels of AC/DC current and voltage.
• Hands-on experience testing complex electronic components or systems using oscilloscopes, power supplies, meters, and other electronic test equipment.
• Experience developing test plans, test procedures, test reports, and determining root causes of complex electronic hardware issues.
• Strong decision-making, oral communication, and written communication skills; ability to work with energized equipment and perform occasional physical laboratory tasks.

Nice to have

• Experience with AutoCAD, Modbus, E-TAP, Creo, PCBA design and manufacturing, firmware validation, or high-power electronics.
• Experience with renewable energy products, energy storage systems, BESS, BMS, PCS, or grid-connected systems.
• Knowledge of lithium-ion battery technologies and standards including UL 9540, UL 9540A, UL 1973, IEEE 1547, and NFPA 855.
• Experience with data acquisition systems, automation tools, or hardware-in-the-loop testing environments.
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
