Director, Field Medical - West (Biotechnology)

Location: United States; remote field role with approximately 60–70% travel within the assigned region

Salary: $205,000–$295,000 annual base salary for employees located in the San Francisco Bay Area, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Lead compliant, peer-to-peer scientific exchange with thought leaders, physicians, renal pathologists, and PKU specialists across the western United States.
• Build regional KOL relationships and provide scientific education on AMKD, FSGS, CKD, PKU, APOL1 biology, and SLC6A19 substrate reduction.
• Serve as the regional field-facing scientific partner for HORIZON, MZE829, and MZE782 clinical trials.
• Support site selection, investigator identification, feasibility, investigator meetings, start-up, enrollment, and retention.
• Advance APOL1 genotyping and genotype-driven patient identification pathways while addressing trust and access barriers.
• Capture medical insights and translate them into recommendations for medical strategy, evidence generation, and launch readiness.

Requirements

• Advanced scientific degree such as PharmD, PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent.
• At least 7 years of Medical Affairs, Field Medical, Clinical Development, or related biopharmaceutical experience.
• Demonstrated success building KOL relationships and leading peer-to-peer scientific exchange.
• Experience with site engagement and clinical trial enrollment, beyond data presentation at sites.
• Deep scientific fluency and credibility in peer-level discussions with academic specialists.
• Ability to work in the United States and travel approximately 60–70% within the assigned region.

Nice to have

• Nephrology expertise and established relationships in the kidney community, with willingness to build metabolic and PKU expertise.
• Pre-commercial or first-launch biotechnology experience.
• Experience with genotype-driven patient identification and diagnostic testing pathways.
• Experience mentoring MSLs or leading congress and scientific-platform initiatives.
