Mechanical Engineer IV (HVAC)

Location: Must be within commutable distance to Raleigh, NC, or willing to relocate; hybrid schedule with three days per week in the office.

What you will do

• Lead the mechanical discipline scope, budget, design activities, and project delivery across all project phases.
• Design HVAC, mechanical utility, plumbing, and piping systems, including load calculations, utility assessments, energy modeling, equipment selection, and specifications.
• Develop design reports, narratives, construction documents, plans, P&IDs, schedules, installation details, and code evaluations.
• Conduct field surveys, resolve existing-condition issues, and support commissioning, startup, construction administration, RFIs, submittals, punch lists, and progress reporting.
• Coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, construction managers, subcontractors, vendors, and manufacturers to deliver complete and constructible designs.
• Lead mechanical teams, perform quality reviews, and mentor less experienced engineers and designers.

Requirements

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering with a mechanical focus.
• Minimum 10 years of experience and professional engineer registration in good standing.
• Advanced experience designing and implementing HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping systems.
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, fire, and building codes.
• Ability to work in a hybrid schedule with three office days per week in Raleigh, NC, or relocate to a commutable distance.

Nice to have

• Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratory, or food and beverage environments, especially GMP manufacturing.
• Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and BIM software.
• Experience with sustainable design, LEED or WELL accreditation, and standards such as ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, and OSHA.
• Experience with plumbing design, mechanical-system troubleshooting, Revit plugins, and parametric workflows using Dynamo, Grasshopper, or Rhino.
• Willingness to travel for client development, project execution, and training.
