Senior Staff Embedded Device Software Engineer (Ethernet)

Location: Irvine, California, United States

Base pay: $132,500–$196,140 per annum, plus eligibility for bonus and equity plans.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and test structured APIs for high-level programming of Ethernet transceivers.
• Develop and maintain Linux kernel PHY drivers and embedded device software.
• Create utilities and tools for embedded software debugging, evaluation, diagnostics, and development.
• Build test infrastructure, automated test scripts, and data analysis tools.
• Collaborate with hardware and firmware teams to analyze system performance and identify optimization opportunities.
• Support Field Application Engineering teams with customer issue resolution and technical guidance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of industry experience, or a related master’s degree with 3+ years of experience.
• Proficiency in C programming for embedded systems across Linux and Windows environments.
• Experience with Windows Visual Studio and system-level software development.
• Strong understanding of structured programming, parameter passing, abstract data types, and data encapsulation.
• Solid Python experience for scripting and tool development, plus familiarity with Git, CI/CD workflows, and issue tracking systems such as Jira.
• Strong debugging, coding standards, best practices, and collaborative engineering skills.

Nice to have

• Experience developing and debugging Linux kernel drivers, particularly PHY drivers.
• Experience with Ethernet transceiver drivers and Ethernet physical-layer protocols.
• Knowledge of Ethernet switching, MAC/PHY/SerDes, MACsec, PTP, and high-availability systems.
• Experience with AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot.
• Experience developing Python-based GUIs and automated data collection and analysis infrastructure.
