Senior Counsel (Civil Defense)

Location: Norwalk, Connecticut; remote, hybrid, or onsite work models available

Base salary: $150,000–$200,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Annual billable-hours bonuses are also available.

Tyson & Mendes is a national civil defense litigation firm with a growing Connecticut practice, providing trial representation, litigation resources, training, and leadership opportunities.

What you will do

• Independently manage complex civil defense matters from discovery through mediation and trial.
• Develop case themes and strategies, handle court appearances, depositions, briefs, motions, and trials.
• Communicate routinely with clients and insurance carriers and cultivate new and existing client relationships.
• Work with experts and evaluate litigation exposure and trial readiness.
• Collaborate with attorneys across experience levels and provide leadership to less experienced attorneys.
• Help expand the Connecticut practice and contribute to team and office development.

Requirements

• Active Connecticut Bar license required. New York admission is highly valued but not required.
• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-approved law school.
• 8+ years of litigation experience, including deposition and trial preparation.
• Meaningful trial experience and the ability to manage all aspects of discovery and case handling independently.
• Experience with insurance defense is preferred; relevant backgrounds include general liability, premises liability, professional liability, products liability, medical malpractice, employment, and toxic tort litigation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, time-management systems, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
