Head, Foreign Language Services (Foreign Languages)

Location: Ottawa, Canada; the majority of work must be performed in the office and cannot be done from home

What you will do

• Manage the foreign language services unit by setting annual plans, objectives, priorities, and project assignments.
• Lead employees through training recommendations, leave approvals, performance evaluations, and day-to-day direction.
• Manage freelance translator capacity, including language requirements, staffing, interviews, suitability assessments, and contracts.
• Plan and oversee the unit budget, forecasts, financial commitments, and delegated signing authority.
• Liaise with internal and external clients to forecast translation needs and improve service delivery.
• Develop partnerships and implement improvements for foreign language services.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree and five years of relevant experience, or an applicable two- or three-year college diploma with seven or six years of relevant experience respectively.
• Relevant experience as a translator, linguist, or interpreter in a foreign-language context.
• Experience collaborating with internal partners and advising employees, management, and clients on foreign language services.
• At least two years of experience interpreting and applying policies, procedures, legislation, or regulations.
• Bilingual imperative CBC/CBC official-language profile in English and French; second-language evaluations are provided.
• Eligibility for Enhanced Top Secret security clearance, including a security interview, polygraph, background investigation, and credit and financial verifications.

Nice to have

• Experience supervising and directing staff, including assigning work, evaluating performance, and identifying training needs.
• Experience implementing process improvements or strategic initiatives in a foreign-language context.
• Experience managing staffing processes, budgets, financial forecasts, and quality control for foreign languages.
