Senior Manager - Service Engineer, Energy Storage

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; field travel to manufacturing and deployment sites required, up to 40%.

What you will do

• Build, lead, and scale a multi-tiered Service Engineering organization supporting deployed BESS assets.
• Define SLAs, handoff criteria, and escalation thresholds across O&M, Service Engineering, and Product/R&D Engineering.
• Lead complex investigations across electrical, thermal, controls, software, and power conversion systems.
• Translate field telemetry and failure data into product requirements that improve reliability and serviceability.
• Develop service documentation, decision trees, service bulletins, and training programs for field technicians.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years supporting complex electromechanical, power electronics, or renewable energy infrastructure, including BESS, solar, or grid-scale systems.
• 3+ years in direct engineering management or team leadership.
• Deep knowledge of BESS architecture, including EMS, BMS, PCS, protection systems, and thermal controls.
• Experience designing and managing structured Tier-1 O&M to Tier-2/3 Service Engineering to Product Engineering escalation models.
• Ability to work in field environments with noise, dust, extreme temperatures, and required PPE; on-call availability is required during escalation events or off-hours.
